Canvas FAQ (Instructor): How can I organize the Speedgrader by Groups?

Summary:

This article demonstrates how to enable and use the Large Course Setting in a Canvas Course.

This setting is useful for:

  • Classes that use the Groups in Canvas.

  • Large classes that break students into Groups for Teaching Assistant grading assistance.

  • Any time an instructor wishes to sort the Speedgrader by Group instead of by individual student

Activate the “Large Course” Setting in the Canvas Course

  • Go to the Canvas Course this setting needs to be activated in.

  • Select Settings from the course navigation menu.

  • Scroll to the middle of the Settings page. Check the box for “Large Course: Launch Speedgrader Filtered by Student Group”

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the blue Update Course Details button.

  • The setting is now activated. Go to Speedgrader to use.

    • To Deactivate, follow these same instructions: uncheck the setting and Save the change.

Using Groups to Filter the Speedgrader

  • Go to the Canvas Course this setting is activated in.

  • Select Grades from the course navigation menu.

  • Go to the Speedgrader for an assignment.

  • Use the drop-down box to filter student groups and grade the assignment.

Can I disable the Groups Filter when I don’t need it?

  • Yes, any time you don’t need the ability to sort the Speedgrader by group, disable the setting.
