Grading Group Assignments in Canvas

This article explains how an instructor might want to give a different grade to a single member of a group.

Instructions

In the circumstance where an instructor might want to give a different grade to a single member of a group, here is how:

  • Create a Group Assignment in your Canvas Course

  • Leave the “grade students individually” unchecked.

Assign Grades to eash student individually is highlight in this screenshot. Shows it as being unchecked.

  • Have all students submit their Group Assignments.

  • Once all Group Assignments have been Graded by the Instructor, go back to the Assignment and Edit it. Check the: Check the “Grade Students Individually” box.

    • There is a warning message that students have already participated in the assignment, it is okay to disregard.

  • Select Save in the bottom-right of the screen.

  • The instructor can now go to Grades and enter individual grades for individual students.
