Summary

To take Record+ exams, students must install the ProctorU browser extension. This article provides the installation steps.

Instructions

  1. If you don’t already have one, create a ProctorU test-taker account using your Boise State student email address. Do not use a personal email account. If you already have a ProtorU account associated with your student email, continue to the next step.

  2. Update to the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Other browsers are not supported.

  3. Download and install the ProctorU Browser Extension from one of the links below:

    • Install the ProctorU extension for Chrome. Be sure to grant permission to “All Sites” if prompted; the extension will not work otherwise (see note at the bottom).
Note: Please access the extension directly from the provided link, it is not publically listed on the Chrome Web Store.

    • Install the ProctorU extension for Firefox.

  4. Click the ProcotrU extension icon in your browser, then click Login.

  5. Enter your account information and be sure to enable the “Stay signed in” option, located under the password field. Sign in.

  6. Close the ProctorU tab after signing in. Do not try to find or schedule your exam on ProctorU’s website. Record+ does not require scheduling an appointment. When you are ready to take the test, you will be able to access it directly in Canvas (like other assignments).

Why does the extension request access to all websites?

Some instructors allow access to specific websites while testing. The extension needs to “see” all sites being accessed during the test in order to make sure that they are permitted.

The extension can be disabled when not in use. When you reactivate it to take a test, be sure that you log back in (steps 4-6).
