Creating Canvas Teaching Sites
There are various ways for faculty to create/copy content into a new teaching site:
Use Middleware 2.0 to
Create a teaching site and
Copy a course (a previous course taught or a program course template)
Use Middleware 2.0 to create a teaching site
Access a previous course taught or a program course template and copy the content into the new teaching site
For instructors to copy course content from a course template into their teaching sites, they need to be assigned a Teacher Course Role in the course template.
Program Representatives can act on a faculty’s behalf if:
Faculty use Middleware 2.0 to create the teaching site and to enroll the Program Representative into the new site as a Course Admin or Teacher
The Program Representative is a Live Course Admin
As a Live Course Admin, besides being able to prepare copies for teaching faculty, you are also able to observe live courses.
For program courses, consult with your program coordinator before preparing for the next teaching term. See Boise State’s Request a Canvas Course Site from Middleware 2.0 for how to use this tool.
Copying Program Course Templates
This information is most relevant for programs that maintain and support the consistent use of program course templates for all courses.
For instructors to copy course content from a course template into their teaching sites, they need to be assigned a Teacher Course Role in the course template.
Faculty can use Middleware 2.0 to both create and copy course content at the same time by simply searching for the program course template. This method will NOT copy dates into teaching sites.
Faculty can also do a Canvas to Canvas Course Import, where course dates can be quickly adjusted for the new term. This method works well for programs that set term-specific dates in course templates prior to the start of each term or that support the copying of previous teaching sites.
By copying previous teaching sites, faculty risk missing out on any maintenance or enhancements performed on a program course template. To get the latest enhancements as implemented in a program course template, faculty should copy directly from the course template.
