This article covers how instructors can create an Assignment in Perusall and a matching Assignment in Canvas.

Instructions

Step 1: Create assignment in Perusall

  1. Click the Perusall link from your Canvas left-hand navigation menu.

    1. See these instructions to integrate Perusall and Canvas if you do not see the Perusall link already there.

  2. Go to the Assignments tab in Perusall.

  3. Click the +Add assignment button.

  4. Click the Content to assign drop-down menu and select the document you wish to use.

    1. If there are not documents to select, you need to add documents to the Perusall course in the Library tab.

  5. Click Next step.

  6. Give the assignment a Deadline and a Name.

    1. The name needs to be unique and you will use this exact same name when creating the assignment in Canvas (see step #____).

  7. Click Next step.

  8. Choose Scoring option.

    1. [more info coming]

  9. Click Save changes.

Step 2: Create same assignment in Canvas

  1. Now go to your course in Canvas.

  2. Click Assignments.

  3. a;lskdjfs;lakdfj

  4. as;dlfksl;dafjk

  5. (create assignment, external tool > Perusall, exact same name as the Perusall assignment, load in new tab)

  6. Click Save and Publish.

  7. This will create a new assignment in your course and will add an associated column to your Canvas gradebook

  8. (adding the assignment to a module)

Instruct your students to click on each assignment link in Canvas from Assignments or from Modules rather than the general Perusall link on the left-hand navigation menu. This is necessary for grade-syncing to work.
