The Phishing Email Issue with Blackboard
Just an update for any frustrated users who reach out to you about the phishing emails - if anyone contacts you please feel free to let them know:
When this problem first reared its head: We attempted to whitelist these emails, per Blackboard’s instructions, and unfortunately, that did not fix the problem as we hoped
When that didn't work...: We opted to communicate out to the entire campus on the temporary fix/workaround while we continue to work on the issue, this went out as 2 emails over the last few weeks. The point of that communication was to notify users (because they were going to run into the issue regardless) and assure them that we are aware of the problem and working on it.
Now: we are currently in communication with Google to see if there is anything that can be tweaked on their end to resolve the phishing sassiness and will keep trying and communicating with campus until we can figure it out :-)

Phishing Email Announcement on Blackboard - mark emails as safe!
Blackboard Email Spam and Phishing Announcement
Due to recent Blackboard upgrade last month, you may notice some changes in how email sent from Blackboard appears in your inbox.
Google may display a yellow warning message on emails from instructors sent through Blackboard with the label, “Be careful with this message” as a potential phishing message.
Also, Blackboard uses a new “from” email address for all system messages, so even if you have previously verified this email address as safe, you may have to do so again.
Students can verify the email is safe by signing into Blackboard and checking to see if the message appears in their class messages.
Once verified, you can indicate that the email “Looks Safe” or is “Not Spam” in your Gmail inbox or spam folder.
Please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357 or helpdesk@boisestate.edu if you need assistance to determine if a particular email is safe, or if you believe the email is a phishing attempt.
