This article will describe how to download alternative file formats using Blackboard Ally.
Instructions
Accessing Alternative Formats
- Find the file you'd like to access
- Select the gray dropdown arrow next to the item and select "Alternative formats"
Select the format you'd like and click "Download"
Your file might take a few minutes to generate.
Available Formats
| Format | Format Description | Format Advantages |
|---|---|---|
| OCRed PDF | Text automatically extracted from a PDF. | Allows for easier reading of scanned PDFs and text search. |
| Tagged PDF | Structured PDF for assistive technology. | Provides structure for screen readers, allowing students who use screen readers to more efficiently move around the document. |
| HTML | Document structure for the web. | Allows faster viewing in a browser and more responsive text on a mobile device. |
| ePub | Format used on e-readers, like the Kindle or iPad. | Allows reading on an e-reader, as well as annotating and highlighting. |
| Electronic braille | BRF version for electronic braille displays. | Necessary for blind students who prefer an electronic braille display. |
| Audio | MP3 recording of text. | Allows students who learn better through audio to absorb information more easily. |
