Boise State enabled additional security features that will reduce the risk of unwanted participants within your meeting. This article focuses on meeting passcodes, which hosts can configure at the time of scheduling meetings. Go to Resolving Unexpected Behavior In Meetings for additional tips.
What are Passcodes?
Passcodes are passwords that participants need to enter before they join a meeting.
Why are Passcodes Important?
If a person wants to access Zoom meetings, they may randomly generate potential meeting IDs and attempt to join a meeting using the IDs. By creating a passcode or password, you automatically disallow anyone using this guessing method from joining.
Distributing Meeting Passcodes
The meeting passcode is encrypted and “embedded” in the link for your Zoom meeting. Most participants won’t need to manually enter the passcode. However, you should keep the passcode close at hand in case some people are prompted to enter it when joining your meeting. Alternatively, you can provide the passcode to participants via a meeting invite or other secure method in advance of the meeting.
If you add a password to a meeting that is already scheduled, the meeting URL will change. You will need to copy the updated meeting invite and share it with the participants again.
Editing Meeting Passwords
Zoom will automatically generate a meeting password for you when you schedule the meeting. If you want a custom password, you can change it for scheduled meetings.
Log into Zoom and go to Meetings > Upcoming Meetings.
Hover over the meeting you want to update and click Edit.
Under Security, change the meeting password.
Click Save.
Click Copy Invitation at the bottom of the page.
Click Copy Meeting Invitation.
Paste the updated information into calendar invites, Canvas courses, or other invitation methods and send it.
