Summary

This article demonstrates how a user can select, view, copy, create, and manage existing grading schemes in Canvas.

Boise State University does not have an official grading scheme, Faculty are permitted to make alterations to the scheme.

Instructions

A Canvas Grading Scheme must be enabled in order for the Canvas to Peoplesoft Grade Transfer tool to work. For those who wish to use the Grade Transfer Tool select either:

  • A Grade Scheme that uses A,B,C,D,F

  • NEW FEATURE FALL 2024: A Grade Scheme that uses P/F (P = Pass/ F= Fail)

  • Go to the course you wish to edit in Canvas.

  • In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.

    • You will default start in the Course Details tab.

  • Scroll midway down the screen and check the box for “Enable Course Grading Scheme”

    • This will open up the options to select, view, copy, create, and manage existing grading schemes

in the Settings area of Canvas, midway through the page the Grading Scheme Enable Course Grading Scheme checkbox is checked.

Select an Existing Grading Scheme:

  • Click on the dropdown menu beneath Grading Scheme.

  • Select existing Scheme that you wish to use.

View a Grading Scheme:

  • Once you have selected a Grading Scheme, click the View button to see it.

Edit a Grading Scheme:

  • When viewing a scheme, select the pencil icon in the upper right-hand corner to edit the parameters.

To edit a grading scheme select the edit icon of a pencil in the upper right hand corner of the current schema you are viewing.

Copy a Grading Scheme:

  • To create a copy of the Grading Scheme, first select the scheme you would like to duplicate

  • Select the Copy button

  • A message will pop up confirming you wish to make a duplicate, select “Duplicate” to complete the process

Save the Changes:

  • When done editing the Grading Schema, select the Update Course Details button at the bottom of the Canvas Settings page.
