Using and Sharing Prompt Templates

Prompt templates are a great way to reuse prompts you routinely depend on so you can save time and have consistency across conversations in boisestate.ai. This article summarizes the different types of templates and how to:

  • Create,

  • Use, and

  • Share

prompt templates from your boisestate.ai account.

Types of Prompt Templates

Once created, you can use them to quickly input conversation prompts or share them with others so they can use them too.

There are three different types of prompt templates:

  • My Prompt Templates (visible only to you, not shared)

  • My Shared (shared by you or to you specifically)

  • Public Instructions (visible to anyone at Boise State to view or use)

You can access all three types from boisestate.ai by selecting the tools icon (looks like a hammer) in the left-hand menu then clicking/tapping Manage Templates. Navigate templates by selecting the desired tab.


How to Create Prompt Templates

  1. Log in to http://boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Select the Tools icon (looks like a hammer) from the menu.

  3. Select Manage Templates.

  4. Click or tap + Create New Template under the My Templates tab.

  5. Enter a title and description. (Figure 1)

  6. In the Template panel (Figure 1):

    1. Add a conversation starter (as needed).

    2. Select the “form fields” you need in the template and label them as desired.

    3. Select the tools (advance settings) required for optimal results.

    4. Pro Tip: Scroll down and expand Template Variables for examples and to add hints.

  7. Confirm the template design in the Preview panel. (Figure 1)

  1. Click or tap Test Template then scroll below to observe the results.

  2. Select Create Template when you are to save your work. Your new template will display in the My Templates tab.

Once saved, your template will appear under your My Templates tab where you can edit, delete, or share the template with others.

How to Use Prompt Templates

Once you have one or more prompt templates, you can use them to quickly kick-off a new conversations.

  1. Log in to http://boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Click/tap the Tools icon (looks like a hammer) from the menu.

  3. Select the template you want to use.

  4. Enter the expected information into each form field.

  5. Click/tap Run Prompt Template button in the prompt panel.

If the template requires specific advanced setting tools that you do not already have set, the initial response to the template will tell you which settings to enable.

Click the gear icon in the prompt panel to select the required tools, then select Run Again. If prompted, select Run Prompt Template button once again.

Sharing Prompt Templates

Sharing a template will not send an email to that recipient, it only shares access through boisestate.ai.

  1. Log in to boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Click/tap the Tools icon (looks like a hammer) from the menu.

  3. Click/tap Manage Templates.

  4. Click the Share icon for the instructions you want to share.

  5. Select how you would like to share the assistant.

    1. Enter Boise State email addresses.

    2. Make accessible to anyone with a link.

    3. (Optional) Set share expiration date.

    4. Select Share Prompt Template.

  1. Copy the Sharable Link if you intend to post access in a Canvas course or via email or other methods.
