Using and Sharing Assistants

Custom AI assistants combine your instructions with additional information selected by you so you can accomplish tasks quickly and accurately. This article summarizes the different types of assistants and how to:

  • Create,

  • Use, and

  • Share

AI assistants from your boisestate.ai account.

Types of AI Assistants

Once created, you can share your AI assistants.

There are two types of assistants:

  • My Assistants (your assistants and any shared with you)

  • Public Assistants (visible to anyone at Boise State to view or use)

You can access assistants from boisestate.ai by selecting the Assistants icon (looks like stars) in the left-hand menu then clicking/tapping Manage Assistants.

How to Create Assistants

  1. Log in to http://boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Select the Assistants icon in the left-hand navigation (looks like stars).

  3. If this is your first assistant click or tap the Create Your First Assistant button, otherwise use the +Create link in the upper right.

    1. Enter a title and description.

    2. Enter the instructions the AI assistant should follow.

    3. (Optional) Add a category.

    4. (Optional) Add an avatar.

    5. (Optional) Add conversation starters that you can choose from when using the AI assistant.

    6. (Optional) Add documents for the assistant to reference. Take note of the maximum size per document and the maximum number of documents.

    7. (Optional) Enter a URL and set parameters for the web crawler.

    8. Set the recommended model based on the way you’ve built your AI Assistant. Claude Sonnet 4 is often a good general-purpose model for a wide range of tasks.

    9. Click or tap Complete Assistant or Make public to share it right away.

For the best results, add documents or use the web crawler so your AI assistant can reference the additional information along with your instructions.

  1. Confirm the new assistant is in your My Assistants panel.

Once saved, you can access your AI assistant from the left-hand menu by clicking/tapping the Assistants icon (looks like stars).

How to Use Assistants

Once you have one or more assistants, you can use them in your AI conversations.

  1. Log in to http://boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Click/tap the Assistants icon.

  3. Select the assistant you want to engage from the Manage Assistants panel.

  4. Enter your prompt in the prompt panel.

  5. Click/tap the Enter icon (upwards arrow).

The assistant you selected will guide how the AI responds.

To Edit an assistant, select Manage Assistants on the assistants panel, click/tap the three stacked dots on the assistant and Choose Edit, make your changes, then select Update to apply them.

Sharing Assistants

  1. Log in to http://boisestate.ai using your Boise State credentials.

  2. Click/tap the Assistants icon.

  3. Click/tap the three stacked dots on the assistant you want to share.

  4. Select how you would like to share the assistant.

    1. Enter Boise State email addresses or make public within the Boise State community.

    2. (Optional) Set share expiration date.

    3. Select Share Assistant.

  5. Copy the Sharable Link if you intend to post access in a Canvas course or via email or other methods. Once others access your assistant using the share link, they will have the opportunity to save it.

If you opted to make the instructions publicly accessible, they will appear under the Public Assistants tab.
