Using the iClicker AI Question Creator

iClicker’s AI question helps faculty create question sets for use in their iClicker course materials.

This article covers how to create, edit, and present AI generated question sets for use with an iClicker poll or for use in an iClicker pre-created quiz or assignment.

Prerequisites

Instructions

To perform any of the actions described in this article, you need to first:

  1. Log in to your web-based clicker account: https://instructor.iclicker.com/#/onboard/login

  2. Select Sign in through your campus portal.

  3. Select Boise State University from the drop down.

  4. Click or tap Let’s Go.

Create AI Question Sets

  1. Select AI Question Sets from the left-hand menu.

  2. Click or tap Create Question Set button.

  3. Select the Discipline from the drop-down menu that best represents your course.

  4. Choose how to create your questions:

    1. Option 1: Enter the Question Topic. Enter keywords or phrases in the Question Topic text field to indicate the topics you want to cover in your question set. Click on the information icon to view sample prompts for inspiration.

    2. Option 2: Upload a file to create questions. Add a file to use as the content source for your questions. You can choose to upload an Acrobat (PDF), PowerPoint (PPTX), or Word (DOCX) file up to 10 MB in size. Do not put any personal information in the file.

  5. Type or use the arrows to indicate the number of each question type you want.

    1. (Optional) Click or tap Additional Settings to create questions tailored to your specific needs e.g., learning taxonomy, learning strategy, question depth, question level).

    2. Click or tap Create to generate the question set.

Tips for using AI to generate the questions that will most help you and students meet the objectives of the course.

  • Use clear and straightforward language.

  • Specify any vocabulary or terminology you would like to use.

  • Add your learning objectives.

  • Focus on the concept you want to cover rather than what you do not wish to be covered. For example, rather than saying "renewable energy that's not solar power," use "renewable energy other than solar power."

Review or Edit AI Question Sets

  1. Select the AI question set to review, or review the question set you just created.

  2. Click or tap the pencil icon at the top to edit the Question Set Name.

  3. Edit the question order set by clicking or tapping the arrows next to a question to move it up or down in the set.

  4. Edit questions by:

    1. Clicking or tapping the the pencil icon to edit it.

    2. Selecting the flag icon to report a problem.

    3. Selecting the trash icon to delete it.

Tips for using AI generated questions.

  • Ensure questions use clear and understandable language.

  • Ensure questions are engaging and at the right level of challenge.

  • Use plausible distractors to address common misconceptions.

Present AI Questions Sets

Present as iClicker Poll

  1. Select the question set you want to present.

  2. Click the three-dot menu.

  3. Select Present Questions.

    1. Each question is shown on an individual slide for use in an iClicker poll.

    2. Use the arrows at the bottom to navigate between the questions.

    3. Use the Show/Hide Answer option to display the correct answer(s).

Present as iClicker Pre-created Quiz or Assignment

  1. Select the question set you want to present.

  2. Click the three-dot menu.

  3. Select Download Questions.

  4. In the pop-up, type the file name and select a file type from the drop-down menu.

  5. Click Download.

The Slide Deck and PDF file formats separate each question onto its own slide or page for easy conversion to an iClicker pre-created quiz or assignment.

The Slide Deck download includes the correct answer in the slide notes, while the PDF download does not.
