Request Elevated Access in Canvas
This article covers how academic administrators (e.g., chairs, deans, coordinators or other support personnel) can request elevated access in Canvas. Elevated access in Canvas may be necessary, for example, when administrators require access to manage all courses for a program or department.
Processing completed requests may take up to a week.
Identifying the Access Needed
If you require access to one or two courses that you taught in the past or someone else taught,
Follow the steps outlined in the Requesting Access to Past Canvas Courses article.
If you are a new employee in OIT Accounts, Academic Testing Center (ATC), Proctoring and Certification Services (PACS), or the Help Desk,
Canvas access will be managed upon completion and approval of your account access form.

If you require account-level access to manage courses for an entire program or department or Canvas access other than what’s listed in the Identifying the Access Needed section, follow these steps:
Complete and submit the request form for elevated access in Canvas.
Supervisor approval is required.
The process may take up to a week to complete.
An email will be sent when
The s_account is created.
Access is granted in Canvas.
Considerations
Historically, s_accounts were used as a mechanism for student employees to retain their normal student roles in Canvas or other systems.
Effective Jan 2025, s_accounts are the default mechamism for any employee who requires elevated Canvas access because these accounts are auto-deprovisioned upon separation from the university.
