Summary

This article guides instructors through signing up for Flipgrid, setting up their first grid, and sharing with students.

Instructions

Signing Up

  1. Navigate to flipgrid.com.

  2. Click the sign-up button in the upper right-hand corner.

  3. Under the educators tab, click Sign Up with Google.

  4. Choose your Boise State Google account. This will automate signing into the platform.

  5. Fill out the required demographic information. This is for Flipgrid's purposes only.

Creating a Grid

  1. You will be redirected to a landing page. Choose + New Grid

2. The sharing options are up to the user, but we would suggest School Email Domain to both preserve privacy and prevent complications.

  3. If you choose School Email Domain, add both the boisestate.edu and u.boisestate.edu domains.

  4. Give your grid a name.

  5. If you wish, customize the URL of your grid and its personalized photo. Neither are required to be customized.

Creating Topics

  1. By default, Flipgrid will create an Introductions topic where students can post intro videos. You can choose to use this for your course, or delete it.

  2. If you wish to create a new topic, click + New Topics.

  3. You will be guided through required and optional fields, where you can add a title and description, customize the response time limit, display date, moderation, add a starter video, and more.

  4. When you have customized to your liking, click Create Topic.

Sharing the Grid

To share the grid with students, you can either copy the URL or embed the grid in your Blackboard course site.

  1. To share the code, simply copy the Flipgrid code/URL (flipgrid.com followed by a 6-7 character string) and paste to email or anywhere else.

  2. To embed it in your course, click on Share, then the Copy Embed Code symbol at the bottom of the pop-up.

    1. To continue embedding, open a Blackboard content item, switch to HTML view, then paste the item.

  3. Once linked or embedded, students can then reply to your initial topic/video, and also reply to other students' videos in a threaded video discussion.
