Summary

This article will describe what Analytics are in Canvas and how to use the tools.

What are Analytics?

Analytics allow account administrators to see how students and instructors are using Canvas. It allows you to view system reports and various ways to measure student performance in terms of different independent variables. As an administrator, you will be able to see all account analytics at the account level that you have admin access and for any sub-level of that level.

Accessing Analytics

Go to Admin in the navigation menu, then select Analytics. If you want to view statistics instead, select Statistics.

Using the Analytics Page

On the analytics page, you'll see a set of numbers at the top that will provide you with a brief snapshot into the data. You can quickly see the number of courses, teachers, students, assignments, discussion topics, files uploaded, and media recordings.

Below the snapshot numbers, you'll get more detailed graphs.

Graph TitleDescription
Activity by DateParticipation and page views per day.
Activity by CategoryPage views for each category.
Grade DistributionThe distribution of grades of all students enrolled in every course in the account.
