Summary

Before you set up Respondus LockDown for one of your exams, the test must be deployed in the course. This article explains how to configure the Test Options page for exams that will be administered with Respondus LockDown Browser.

Instructions

This article outlines the recommended Canvas settings for administering a Respondus Lockdown test in the classroom. These directions apply to Canvas' Classic Quizzes tool.

Instructions

  1. Start by creating the quiz with the Classic Quizzes tool, which has wider support. You can also use an existing Classic Quiz. The exam content does not need to be finalized at this time.

  1. Set the exam

...

Enable force completion - if the exam will be administered without proctoring, you should enable force completion to prevent students from being able to leave the exam and return to it later.

...

Set an exam timer (recommended) - turn on the auto-submit setting. This will end and grade the exam when the timer expires. These settings are recommended but not required.

...

Set the availability window - set the desired dates in the Display After and the Display Until fields. Set the desired times next to each one.

...

Do not set a password - leave the password field empty, and the checkbox disabled. When you configure Lockdown Browser, a password will be automatically assigned in this field.

...

Apply extended time accommodations - If your exam is timed, remember to add extended time exceptions for any students who qualify.

...

Do not enable due date restriction - Do not enable the setting for restricting the exam after the due date. This setting will prevent some make-up and accommodated testers from being able to access the test. The availability window (Step 4) is sufficient for controlling students' access to the exam.

...

Under Show Test Results And Feedback To Students, it is recommended that you set both the feedback fields to Choose. This will prevent access to exam content after submission (including the question text, students' responses, and correct/incorrect answers). Students can still see their overall score in their Grade Center. However, if possible, going over the test should be done with the instructor rather than allowing access to the exam material.

  2. If you would like for students to be able to see question feedback, click the checkbox next to the option to allow students to see their responses. Consider restricting this to a one-time view after submission to prevent exam material from being shared outside of the testing environment. You can always change the availability of feedback and correct answers at a later time.

  3. Set the availability window as needed. For exams administered in-class, it is recommended that you make the test available 5 minutes before class begins. It may help to also add 5 minutes to the availability deadlines.

  4. If the exam will be administered in class, it is recommended that you set an access code (password) that you only share with students at the start of class. This is to prevent students from accessing the test at home. You should also change this password immediately after class, but not during the test.
