If a person wants to access Zoom meetings, they may randomly generate potential meeting IDs and attempt to join a meeting using the IDs. By creating a passcode or password, you automatically disallow anyone using this guessing method from joining.

Note

If you add a password to a meeting that is already scheduled, the meeting URL will change. You will need to copy the updated meeting invite and share it with the participants again.

Distributing Meeting Passcodes

The meeting passcode is encrypted and “embedded” in the link for your Zoom meeting. Most participants won’t need to manually enter the passcode. However, you should keep the passcode close at hand in case some people are prompted to enter it when joining your meeting. Alternatively, you can provide the passcode to participants via a meeting invite or other secure method in advance of the meeting.
