This article outlines how instructors can use the Grade Transfer Tool in the Canvas LMS.

  • The course must have a standard grading basis (e.g. A, B, C, D, F).

The Grade Transfer Tool does not work for Pass/Fail, Complete/Incomplete, or other uniquely graded courses. Please see the Registrar’s Help Article: Faculty Grading for instructions on manually submitting grades into Peoplesoft.

  • Courses that have other grading basis are not supported ('PF', 'AUD', 'PFA', 'PIP', 'JS2', 'JS1').

  • The course must not be a concurrent enrollment course.

  • Select the orange button Import Grades from Canvas

    • If you have forgotten any of the set-up steps, the tool will give you a pop-up message indicating what is missing.

      • Here is a screenshot where the instructor forgot to turn on the Grade Schema and received an error message. If an error occurs, go back to Canvas and fix the issue. Then return to http://my.boisestate.edu and repeat the import process - it will work this time!

  • As long as everything is set up correctly, the grades will load in Peoplesoft. A green “success” message will appear briefly in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

  • Review the loaded grades. Select the blue Save to Peoplesoft Button.

  • A new box will pop up with a link to go to Peoplesoft to finalize.

  • Once you are in Peoplesoft, go to the Grades Roster for your course.

  • Review the students' grades and Submit them to Peoplesoft. You’re done!

  2. Click IMPORT FROM CANVAS.

    1. If there is more than one Canvas course site associated with the PeopleSoft course, you may be prompted to select the Canvas site where you entered grades for your students before you can import grades. Use the CANVAS SITE button to go to and review the course sites if you are uncertain which to choose.

      Example 1: If your Chemistry course is also associated with the Chemistry Instructional Center (CIC) Canvas site, you may be asked to choose between your course and the CIC course.

      Example 2: If you created a course site in Middleware and then later decided to merge it with another section, you may be asked to choose between the initial (now abandoned) course site and the merged course site.

Warning

If after importing your grades, there is a “missing” message for any student, return to Canvas and confirm your course site meets the requirements as stated at the beginning of this article.

  1. Click EXPORT TO PEOPLESOFT.

    1. Once the export is complete, your course detail will populate with the date and time of the export.

    2. You can validate the export by logging into PeopleSoft and accessing the Grade Roster for your course.

Note

Once the export is complete, you must follow the steps outlined in the Registrar’s Grade Roster Submission article to submit the grades.
