Summary Respondus Lockdown Browser is a secure browser for taking tests in Canvas. This article explains how to install Lockdown and launch assessments that use Canvas' “Classic Quizzes” tool. |
Note: If your course uses Classic Canvas' New Quizzes tool, refer the the directions for using Respondus LockDown Browser with Classic New Quizzes instead. If you’re not sure which quiz tool is used in your course, please verify with your instructor.

If you have not yet done so, download and install Lockdown Browser from this link: https://download.respondus.com/Lockdownlockdown/download.php?id=497143110
Close all open programs.
Locate the “Lockdown Browser” shortcut on the desktop and double-click it. (For Mac users, find “Lockdown Browser” in the LaunchPad or your Applications folder.
Mac users may be prompted to approve system permissions for Lockdown Browser. Follow the on-screen prompts to grant the necessary permissions.
Lockdown may prompt you to close specific programs that are running on your computer (e.g., instant messaging, other browsers, etc.). You can close these programs by choosing “Close Applications” on the prompt message.
The default landing page for Lockdown Browser is the My Boise State portal. Log into your account and access Canvas.
Navigate to the test within the your course and select Begin Examclick the Take the Quiz button.
The test will then start (once a test has been started with Respondus Lockdown Browser, you cannot exit until the Submit button is clicked).
