What are Passcodes?

Passcodes are passwords that participants need to enter before they join a meeting.

Why are Passcodes Important?

If a person wants to access Zoom meetings, they may do this by randomly generating generate potential meeting ID’s IDs and attempting attempt to join the meeting at that IDa meeting using the IDs. By creating a passcode or password, you automatically disallow anyone using this guessing method from joining.

Note

If you add a password to a meeting that is already scheduled, the meeting URL will change. You will need to copy the updated meeting invite and share it with the participants again.

Passcodes

The meeting password passcode is encrypted and “embedded” in the link for the your Zoom meeting. Most participants will not won’t need to manually enter the passwordpasscode. However, you should still include the password invite in the Meeting invitation so that people can enter it if promptedkeep the passcode close at hand in case some people are prompted to enter it when joining your meeting. Alternatively, you can provide the passcode to participants via a meeting invite or other secure method in advance of the meeting.

Editing Meeting Passwords

Zoom will automatically generate a meeting password for you when you schedule the meeting. If you want a custom password, you can change it for scheduled meetings.

  1. Log into Zoom and go to Meetings > Upcoming Meetings.

  2. Under Upcoming Meetings, click the topic of the Hover over the meeting you want to update .Click Edit This Meetingand click Edit.

  3. Under Meeting Options Security, change the meeting password.

  4. Click Save.

  1. Click Copy Invitation at the bottom of the page.

  2. Click Copy Meeting Invitation.

  3. Paste the updated information into calendar invites, Canvas courses, or other invitation methods and send it.
