This article demonstrates how an Instructor can grant a student double-time for a Quiz in Canvascontains instructions for Canvas Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes on common EAC Accommodation requests:

  • Extra Time on a Quiz

  • Extra attempts on a Quiz

Note

Note: the exam must be published before adding extended time for the Classic Quiz instructions.

Classic Quiz Instructions

  • Go to Canvas.

  • Navigate to the course you wish to work in. Select Quizzes from the Course Layout Menu.

  • Click on the title of the quiz you wish to work with.

  • In the upper right hand corner of the Quiz Details page, click on the Moderate This Quiz link.

  • A new window will pop up with a list of all the students names.

  • Select the pencil icon to the far right of the student’s name.

  • A new window will pop up that will allow the Instructor to customize any Quiz Settings that have been applied to the Quiz.

  • In this example, we want to give a student Double Time on their Quiz. The standard time is 10 minutes. In the Extra Time box, type in 10 and select Save.

New Quiz Instructions

  • Go to Canvas.

  • Navigate to the course you wish to work in. Select Quizzes from the Course Layout Menu.

  • Select the three-dots (…) for the particular quiz.

  • Select Build.

  • Select Moderate Tab.

NOTE: There are two options for adding an accommodation: Accommodations column or Moderate button.

Accommodations Column

  • Locate the student you wish to add accommodations for. Select the pencil icon in the Accommodation column.

  • Note: adding an Accommodation here applies to ALL New Quizzes in the course.

  • Give Additional Time: add additional hours and minutes

  • Remove Time Limit (unlimited): give student unlimited time

  • Time limit multiplier: add 1.5x or 2x multiplier to quiz timer

  • Select Save.

Moderate Button

  • Locate the student you wish to add accommodations for. Select the Moderate button for that student.

  • A small screen will slide out with the option to make accommodations for only this New Quiz.

  • Reopen: reopen a closed New Quiz.

  • Additional Attempts: give the student 1 or more attempts.

  • Time Adjustments:

    • Give Additional Time: add additional hours and minutes

    • Remove Time Limit (unlimited): give student unlimited time

  • Changes are automatically saved, select X when done with adjustments.
